London-bound jet hit by bomb scare
Qatar: Pilot made emergency landing in Damascus after threat
A Qatar Airways plane heading from Syria to London was forced to make an emergency landing after a terror alert caused by a bomb threat.
The plane, carrying 234 passengers and 13 crew, left Doha on Saturday but was forced to make the emergency landing at Damascus after a female passenger claimed there was a bomb on the flight.
After a search revealed that no bomb existed, the Syrian aviation board released a statement that the passenger was in an “abnormal” mental state.
The Observer reports that a second Qatari plane was affected by a bomb scare over the weekend. The jet was ready to leave Cairo when staff discovered a note saying that the plane would explode. According to the newspaper, the note read: “Bin Laden. The plane will blow up on take-off.”
The Foreign Office last week advised Britons not to travel to Qatar because of an increased terror risk.
