London City flight in emergency landing
A CityJet flight from London City was forced to make an emergency landing at Southend when one of its engines caught fire.
The RJ85 aircraft had just taken off for Florence at 2.30pm yesterday when it diverted to Southend after an emergency warning light came on.
The fire was put out by the onboard extinguisher, said the Daily Mail.
The pilot landed flight WX281 safely but the runway was blocked for quarter of an hour while the fire service checked out the engine, said the paper.
Roads around the airport were also closed.
It was the second diversion in a week for CityJet flights from the Docklands’ airport. On Thursday, another one of its aircraft made an emergency landing at Southend due to a hydraulic problem with its brakes.
