London City re-opens after runway ‘surface irregularity’ is fixed
London City Airport re-opened just before lunchtime yesterday after being closed since early morning due to ‘a surface irregularity that needed to be flattened out’.
Delayed passengers took to social media to vent their frustration about the problem, which was initially believed to be a hole in the runway.
But the airport confirmed later called it a ‘surface irregularity’, which was spotted during routine checks at 6am.
No flights departed or arrived at the airport while emergency maintenance work took place.
The airport apologised for the inconvenience caused.
