London is THE best place in the world – it’s official

Saturday, 03 May, 2012 0

London has been ranked as the top destination in the world by millions of travellers worldwide.

The capital came in first place in the TripAdvisor 2012 Choice Destination Awards.

TripAdvisor spokesperson Emma Shaw said: "To be crowned the world’s best destination in the Olympic year by millions of travellers is a tremendous honour for London. It’s fantastic to see the capital recognised and rewarded by those that have really experienced the city – travellers themselves."

Gordon Innes, CEO, London & Partners added: "This accolade couldn’t be better timed for the capital in this momentous year and we are delighted that millions of travellers have voted London as the number one destination in the world, Europe and the UK. These three awards are testament to the wonderful array of attractions, dining and accommodation that set London apart from all of these other destinations."

The awards honour top travel spots worldwide based on millions of reviews and opinions from TripAdvisor travellers.  Award winners are determined based on the popularity of destinations, taking into account travellers’ favorites and most highly rated places.

New York was named the second best destination worldwide, followed by Rome, then Paris.

Edinburgh was named as the second favourite city in the UK alone, followed by Liverpool and Torquay in third and fourth place.

Glasgow considered the fifth best destination in the UK. Belfast, Manchester, Blackpool , Birmingham and Llandudno also made it onto the list.
