London Underground to halt for 24 hours this afternoon
A strike by London Underground workers will bring the Tube to a 24-hour standstill later today, at the height of the tourist season in the capital.
RMT and TSSA union members plan to walk out at 18:30 hours and they will be joined by Aslef drivers at 21:30.
Passengers are advised to finish their journeys by 17:00 hours this afternoon, after which the Tube will grind to a halt.
There will be no Tube services tomorrow. Overground rail services aren’t affected.
London Underground has been locked in talks with the unions to try to reach a deal over the planned introduction of new all-night Tube services, but the RMT said discussions had reached deadlock and no further talks were planned before the strike later today.
Transport for London said 200 extra bus and more river services will be laid on on Thursday, but warned that roads and all public transport would be much busier than usual. Santander said it will provide more hire bikes around London too.
