Lord Forte dies aged 98
Iconic hotelier Lord Forte has died at his London home at the age of 98.
The founder of Trusthouse Forte and Travelodge began his career in the hospitality industry by opening a milk bar in London in 1934.
His empire grew to a chain of 800 hotels worldwide plus restaurants such as Little Chef and Happy Eater.
Knighted in 1970 for his contributions to the catering industry and charities, the former Charles Forte accepted a life peerage in 1982.
The Forte name lives on through his son Sir Rocco Forte’s luxury chain, Rocco Forte Hotels.
