Los Angeles posts another record year for tourism

The so-called Trump Slump seemed to have little effect in Los Angeles.

It’s been boom time for LA in 2017 with record tourism arrivals of 48.3 million, for the seventh consecutive year.

It represents an extra million visitors compared to 2016 driven by an all-time high 41.2 million domestic visitors.

International visitation was also up to a record 7.1 million visitors.

Asia markets fueled the rise with significant growth from China, South Korea and India.

A total of 1.1 million Chinese visitors visited LA

"We are powering Los Angeles’ economy to new heights every year, because we know that lasting prosperity means investing boldly in jobs, opportunity, and growth," said Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti.

"The expansion of our travel and tourism sector tells the story of a city whose moment has arrived — and we will continue pushing forward as we expand our role on the world stage."

Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board has targeted 50 million for 2018.

LA Tourism says its response to the government’s travel curbs and stricter immigration policy has paid dividends.

"Our ‘Everyone is Welcome’ campaign was the right message at the right time; it was a message of humanity and encouraged people around the globe to see the diversity of L.A.’s faces and places," said Ernest Wooden Jr., president & CEO of the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board.
