Louisiana’s Rose CenterSprings Into Full Bloom

Tuesday, 06 May, 2008 0

Experience nature at its finest when you visit the Gardens of the American Rose Center – America’s largest park dedicated to roses!

Winding paths, babbling brooks and thousands of glorious roses invite you to relax and enjoy the beauty that abounds here. Discover why the gardens are among America’s most valuable treasures as you surround yourself with vibrant blooms and delicious floral scents while strolling through 20,000 magnificent roses!

“This year mother nature has been appeased,” said Marketing and Special Events Director Marilyn Creswell. “One day there were no roses and the next day, the entire 65 gardens were abloom with color.”

The gardens will stay in bloom until the first week of June. Afterwards, there will be sporadic color as the roses continue to bloom until the first frost.

The Gardens of The American Rose Center are the home of the American Rose Society, the largest single-plant society in the United States. Founded in 1892, the non-profit organization promotes the growth and appreciation of the national flower of the United States – the Rose.

Among the beautiful blooms is the Garden of the Shreveport Rose, which showcases massive, bold orange-pink colors for its own uniqueness. In addition, the planting of the easily-cared-for and green-friendly Earth Kind is tremendous.

Visitors can see the country’s newest hybrid roses, miniature roses – small in stature, but big in showmanship, and an intriguing displays of exotic and colorful single petal roses! Or, visitors can feast their eyes on hundreds of varieties of antique roses, thornless roses, ‘hand painted’ roses and celebrity roses!

“This is a great time to visit,” Creswell said. “Most of the roses will bloom in full in the spring. A group of late bloomers will have their turn in the fall.”

The Gardens are open for tours, Tues, Wed, Thurs. from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and during regular garden hours on Saturday and Sunday, through October 31.

Discounted group and tour rates are offered and admission is free on the second Tuesday of each month (some conditions apply). The Gardens also offers an Automated Cell Phone Audio Tour of the Gardens.
