Low cloud grounds flights at Queenstown

More than 700 passengers were either stranded in Queenstown or transported to other centres after low cloud and rain grounded six Air New Zealand flights yesterday.

Some disgruntled passengers were trying desperately to rebook on flights today to get home to work but all flights out of the resort were fully booked.

Air New Zealand Queenstown Airport manager David Scott said the airport was affected by weather from time to time but yesterday was worse than usual.

“This is a bad day. Typically, by lunchtime it normally clears but today is a particularly bad one,” he said.

Two Air New Zealand Boeing flights into Queenstown were diverted to Invercargill and passengers transported to the resort.

Departing passengers were transported by bus to Christchurch or travelled to Invercargill and Dunedin to connect with rebooked flights.

<P.OTHER holidaymakers, including those on an international flight Sydney did not look too concerned about having day?s holiday.
