Lowcostbeds.com makes trade pledge at launch
Lowcostbeds.com, the new venture started by former Going Places and First Choice retail chief Paul Evans, has launched its agency website claiming it is committed to working with the trade. The company, which will sell accommodation-only in a variety of resorts, is also planning to become a full tour operator in the future, selling packages or elements of a package. Head of sales Alison Jago, who has struck deals with over 2,000 agents, including multiples, miniples and independents, said: “We are delighted with the enthusiasm shown by agents in the lowcostbeds.com product. We are committed to high level trade support. “Our sales team is currently visiting agents all over the UK to introduce them to lowcostbeds.com and is backed by the sales support team in the main office. In addition, we have a training manual to the site for all agents to access on-line.” Lowcostbeds.com has copied the business model used by no-frills airlines, outsourcing wherever possible and keeping costs to a minimum. The company has contracted over 1,000 three, four and five-star hotels in 25 destinations. Prices start at £1 per person per night. Managing director Philippa Harris said: “The independent market accounts for over 50 per cent of total overseas holidays and is growing all the time. It is now a significant market in its own right. “We think there is a niche in the trade for an accommodation provider. As well as budget properties we sell lots of five-star hotels, so there will be an opportunity to earn decent commission.” Lowcostbeds.com has an ABTA retail licence, so anyone booking direct with the company would be covered in the event of a financial failure. It is planning to obtain an air travel organiser’s licence to enable it to sell packages.
