Lufthansa and crew agree to mediation as further strikes loom
Lufthansa is trying to avert further costly strikes by its cabin crew by agreeing to mediation in a long-running dispute over retirement benefits.
Mediation between the airline and the trade union UFO could begin in the second half of February, after the union has completed a ballot of workers for industrial action, which it intends to use to put further pressure on the airline.
Lufthansa has already endured 10 separate strikes by pilots over its plans for an early retirement scheme, announced last year. The union last week threatened further industrial action unless it can reach an agreement over pension plans.
Lufthansa said it was convinced ‘constructive talks’ would help to resolve the dispute.
