Lufthansa cancels 1000 flights today
Lufthansa has cancelled a thousand flights today, including dozens to and from the UK, as its pilots extended their latest strike into a second day.
Some 140,000 passengers will be inconvenienced as the airline will only be able to operate 500 of tis short and medium-haul flights, carrying 40,000 passengers.
A spokesman said 34 flights from the UK and 34 flights to the UK from Germany had been cancelled.
The airline has also had to cancel 52 of its 176 long-haul flights today, partly because aircraft are in the wrong position due to yesterday’s 24-hour walkout.
Lufthansa said customers whose flights are cancelled as a result of the industrial action will be able to rebook or to cancel their booking free of charge.
Travellers within Germany will be able to use the trains of Deutsche Bahn instead by converting their air ticket into a rail ticket online at LH.com or at a Lufthansa check-in machine.
The services of sister carriers Germanwings, SWISS, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines are not affected, and will operate as scheduled.
