Luton celebrates record-breaking Easter weekend
Luton Airport enjoyed its busiest every Easter weekend, during which when 193,935 passengers travelled through the terminal.
For the whole of March, over 1.2 million passengers used Luton, making this the 14th consecutive month that the airport handled more than a million passengers.
EasyJet and Wizz Air will operate six new routes from Luton, which could boost passenger numbers higher. Easyjet has added flights to Palermo and Genoa in Italy, Reus in Spain and Dalaman in Turkey. Wizz Air has added flights to the Slovakia capital Bratislava and to Bari in Italy.
Fourteen new retail stores have also recently opened at the airport, including Ted Baker and Hugo Boss, and Oliver Bonas has chosen Luto for its first-ever airport store.
A total of 30 new stores are due to open in the terminal by the end of the year as part of its £160 million redevelopment programme. The transformation includes an expanded terminal providing more seating and new boarding gates.
CEO Nick Barton said: "This is a really exciting time for the airport, as we come towards the culmination of our transformation and celebrate our 80th anniversary.
"People can now visit over 140 destinations from LLA and new shops and restaurants mean our growing number of passengers have even greater choice when travelling through the airport."
