Malaysia Airlines’ website taken over by lizard in top hat and tails
Malaysia Airlines claims its site has not been hacked despite a group posting a lizard in a top hat and tails on its homepage.
The hackers, claiming to be from the ‘Lizard Squad – Official Cyber Caliphate’, attacked the airline’s official website, adding the picture, the message ‘404 – Plane Not Found’ and a rap song.
The airline said its Domain Name System (DNS) had been affected and visitors to the Malaysia Airlines site had been redirected to a hacker website.
In a statement, MAS said although the site was compromised, its customers’ bookings and data were safe.
"Malaysia Airlines assures customers and clients that its website was not hacked and this temporary glitch does not affect their bookings and that user data remains secured," it said.
Lizard Squad claimed on Twitter that it would release data from Malaysia Airlines, but did not specify what information it might have.
The airline is still recovering from the disappearance of MH370 and the loss of MH17 which was shot down.
