Malaysia tourism targeting RM310 million revenue from golf
Fresh from celebrating the award of ‘Asia’s Best Golf Destination’ at last month’s World Golf Awards, Malaysia Golf Tourism Association is forecasting golf tourism revenue of RM310 million by the end of the year.
MGTA president President Ng Eu Shen said the country will continue to market itself as a value-for-money golfing destination.
"There is an overall perception that Malaysia has value for money in hotel rates, airline connectivity and other tourism products and we also have less traffic congestion than other countries in the region, are an English-speaking nation, and enjoy political stability," he said.
Underpinning Malaysia’s ascendancy as a top Asian destination for golfers is the emergence of world class resorts such as the new Els Club Teluk Datai.
The new Langkawi resort was recognised as ‘World’s Best New Golf Course’ and ‘Best New Golf Course in Asia’ at World Golf Awards, just two weeks after officially opening to the public.
There are plans to expand the Els Club brand in Malaysia, with a 27-hole Els Club Desaru Coast and 18-hole Els Club Desaru Valley in Johor state.
