Malaysian forces mop up Sabah insurgents
Malaysian security forces are confident they have cleared a village at the heart of a month-long incursion by Filipino Islamists, but the hunt for other members of the group goes on as the death toll, now 63, goes up.
Remaining followers of a self-styled Philippine sultan are still being hunted by crack Malaysian troops.
The armed group landed on the coast of the Malaysian state of Sabah on Borneo island early last month in a bid to assert the "sultan’s" historical claim to the areas.
Sabah state police chief Hamza Taib said security forces were pursuing the remaining fighters.
He said 54 militants and eight police officers had been killed in Malaysia’s worst security crisis in years.
