Police in Bali have arrested a man over the murder of a British tourist in Bali.

The woman’s body was found in a villa in Ubud where she had been staying since early May.

Police allege the woman, from Leicestershire, was strangled by a 32-year-old building worker who had broken into the villa with the intention of stealing items.

The alleged killer was arrested in Jakarta, where he fled after the murder.

Police say the man had confessed to the crime, admitting that he panicked and attacked the woman when she discovered him in the villa.

Police allege that several objects were missing from the villa, including a cell phone, Rp 20 million (US$1,734) in cash and a rented motorcycle.

The man faces the death penalty if convicted of the crime.
