Man killed on Disney roller coaster
A man has been killed, and another 10 injured, after a roller coaster at Disneyland derailed.
The tragedy occurred on the famous Thunder Mountain Railroad ride, one of the most popular in the theme park, after the front car of the “train” became separated. The man who died and all those injured were in the same car.
According to the BBC News website, police in Anaheim, where the park is located, say they do not believe foul play was involved, though it has not been ruled out at this stage.
The theme park’s president Cynthia Harris was quoted by Reuters news agency as saying: “We are shocked and saddened by this incident – our hearts and prayers go out to the family of those involved.”
The BBC reports that Friday’s death brings to 10 the number of those killed in Disneyland since it was opened in 1955.
