Man pinned to ground by armed police outside Houses of Parliament
Armed police officers restrained a man at the gate to the Houses of Parliament in London’s Westminster yesterday morning.
Witnesses described armed police running towards Carriage Gates and pinning a man to the ground.
Images from the scene show a man on the floor, surrounded by police officers, one of whom was pointing a gun.
The man is believed to have been trying to get inside the building before he was shot by a police Taser.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police told the Evening Standard: "A man was detained and arrested by Carriage Gates inside the Palace of Westminster on suspicion of trespassing at a protected site, at around 11.55hrs."
BBC reporter Laura Kuenssberg said the intruder was taken away in a police van.
Police told the BBC that the incident, which happened in the same spot as last year’s terror attack on Westminster, was not terror-related.
