Manchester group shows interest in US airport
Manchester Airports Group has registered its interest in buying Chicago Midway just weeks after buying Stansted airport.
The group, which also owns East Midlands and Bournemouth, is one of 16 potential bidders to register interest, reports the Sunday Times.
The sale will be the first privatisation of a large American airport.
MAG would team up with Industry Funds Management – the Australian investor it partnered on the Stansted deal – by providing the technical know-how.
Global Infrastructure Partners, which owns Gatwick and Edinburgh airports and a team led by Ferrovial, the Spanish construction giant which owns Heathrow, have also registered interest.
The city of Chicago is offering a 40-year lease. A previous attempt to sell the airport failed in 2009.
