Mandarin Oriental sets plastic ban target for all hotels
Hong Kong based luxury hotel group Mandarin Oriental has pledged to ditch all single-use plastic across its entire portfolio of hotels by March 2021.
The company promises to go farther than some other hotel chains by extending the plastiv ban across all operations.
It will cover ‘all areas of the hotel, and not just in the public areas that the customer sees’ the company said.
The initiative is already well underway with 86% of 23 of the most commonly used single-use items already eliminated or are being phased out.
"We recognise that to achieve complete elimination while maintaining our luxury service standards is a challenge, but to drive change we must set ambitious goals," said Mandarin Oriental CEO, James Riley.
The company will issue updates every six months about current progress of the initiative from March 2020.
