Market share tumbles for Aer Lingus
Easyjet and Ryanair are both continuing to eat into the market share of Aer Lingus on routes from the Republic of Ireland, CAA figures have revealed.
In the first six months of the year, the carrier has seen its share between London and Cork tumble from 53% to 41% and from 67% to 45% on the Shannon route.
Easyjet, which only launched into the ROI earlier this year has taken 14% and 10% of the markets respectively while Ryanair has grown its share from 40% to 43% on the Cork route and from 32% to 43% between London and Shannon.
Between London and Knock – where Aer Lingus does not operate – Ryanair has also suffered following the introduction of its bitter rival. The Irish carrier’s share has fallen from 100% to 73% with Easyjet capturing 27%.
Easyjet also claimed Ryanair’s fares have also taken a tumble.
