Marriott acquiring Canadian hotel group Delta
Marriott International has announced an agreement to buy Canadian hotel brand Delta Hotels & Resorts for about $135 million.
Delta has 38 hotels comprising 10,000 rooms in 30 destinations in Canada.
The deal will make Marriott the largest full service hotel company in Canada, with more than 120 hotels and 27,000 rooms.
"Delta has an impressive portfolio of hotels that are among the most preferred in Canada," said Marriott CEO Arne Sorensonin a statement.
"With this acquisition, we are continuing our focus on building our brand portfolio and growing in attractive regions outside the U.S. Combining the strong Delta brand with Marriott’s hotel development expertise will accelerate growth of the brand in Canada."
Marriott is acquiring the Delta management and hotel franchise business, and intellectual property related to the Delta brand.
Marriott plans to integrate the Delta hotels into its reservation systems and loyalty program.
Subject to approval by Canadian regulators, the deal is expected to be finalized by the second quarter of 2015.
