Thursday, 29 Jan, 2016 0
The travel unit of Japan’s largest e-commerce company Rakuten has signed an agreement to distribute Marriott International’s global room inventory to its Japanese customers.

The agreement will allow Rakuten Travel customers to search for rooms and make bookings at Marriott’s more than 4,000 hotels worldwide.

The agreement is set to take effect sometime during the first quarter of this year.

"Rakuten Travel deeply understands the buying behaviour of Japanese travellers, particularly online, and that is a big focus for us," Peggy Fang Roe, chief sales and marketing officer at Marriott International, Asia Pacific said.

Rakuten says more than 1.8 million room nights are booked every month through its online travel portal.

‘Marriott International is a strategic fit for our group as the number of Japanese travelers exploring the world continues to grow. We are very excited that our customers will be able to have direct access to the worldwide room inventory of Marriott," Takanobu Yamamoto, President of Rakuten Travel said.
