Marriott International has announced 2016 openings for 22 new hotels in its Millennial focused AC Hotels brand.

It kicks off with five openings this month in Cincinnati, Boston, Guadalajara and Queretaro, Mexico and Marseille, France.

Others due to open this year include AC hotels in Atlanta, a second Boston area hotel, Phoenix, Santa Fe and Minneapolis.

Marriott’s European footprint will be expanded this year with the first AC properties in the UK, in Germany and Poland.

"AC Hotels by Marriott is a new breed of lifestyle hotels created to inspire the next-generation traveler through innovative design.  It illustrates Marriott International’s commitment to making distinctive architecture and design affordable and accessible," said Tina Edmundson, global officer, luxury and lifestyle brands at Marriott International.

The AC brand takes its name and inspiration from original founder, Spanish hotelier Antonio Catalan, and features contemporary European design with decor reflecting each destination.

There are plans for a total of 50 new AC Hotels scheduled to open within the next three years in US, Canada, Europe, and Latin America.

AC Hotels by Marriott made its US debut in November 2014 with AC New Orleans and has since launched in Washington DC, Kansas City, Chicago and Miami.
