MasterChef who worked in luxury ski chalets dies after collapsing at London Marathon
A MasterChef semi-finalist who worked in luxury ski chalets and villas on the Cote d’Azure has died after collapsing at the London Marathon on Sunday.
Matt Campbell, who was 29, collapsed less than four miles from the end of the race, which was the hottest on record. He died later in hospital.
He appeared on BBC’s MasterChef: The Professionals last December, having finished second on BBC’s Young Chef of the Year in 2000, after which he went to the French Alps to work as a private chef.
Campbell, who then spent almost eight years travelling and working abroad, was due to filming for a new TV pilot later this year.
He was running the marathon in memory of his father, who died 18 months ago, and had already completed the Manchester Marathon two weeks ago.
He had hoped to raise £2,500 for the Cumbria-based Brathay Trust, which aims to inspire vulerable young people to make positive changes in their lives, but donations have now topped £90,000.
