MATTA sues rival trade association
The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) has taken aim at a new trade group rival, accusing it of trademark infringement.
It is suing Persatuan Agensi Pelancong Malaysia (Malaysia Association Tour Agency, known as MATA).
It issued a cease and desist order to change its trademark and name and has demanded a public apology.
MATTA argues the new association has ’caused confusion in the marketplace which has resulted in complaints being made to MATTA.’
MATTA wants an explanation from Malaysia’s Registrar of Society on how MATA was approved for registration.
MATTA has been established more than 40 years and represents more than 3,600 member travel agencies and tour operators which are licensed by Malaysia’s ministry of tourism, arts and culture.
