MCEC awarded Australia’s first ‘Gold’ AIPC Quality Standards Certification
The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) has become the first convention centre in Australia to be awarded the AIPC Quality Standards Certification and one of a select few convention centres in the world to be granted a ‘gold’ level after achieving a near-perfect score.
Developed to create an industry-specific program to identify and evaluate key areas of convention centre performance, the AIPC Quality Standards Program addresses ten key areas, Customer Service; Quality of Facilities and Operations; Employee Relations; Health, Safety, Security and Emergency Response; Financial Integrity; Community Relations; Environmental Responsibility; Industry Relations and Supplier Relations.
MCEC chief executive Leigh Harry said ‘The MCEC is committed to consistently evaluating and improving its key operations and we are extremely pleased to have been awarded a certification at this highest possible gold level.’
External Auditor Knowlan Consulting Group Inc Canada for the AIPC Quality Standards Certification Program said ‘Simply put, Melbourne’s submission is exemplary. As we audit these submissions, we look for areas in which we may provide helpful suggestions, hoping to provide some useful feedback that can partly make up, however inadequately, for the effort the facility’s managers have put into their program. We apologise that we were unable to find any areas in which to offer constructive suggestions for improvement.’
AIPC President Edgar Hirt congratulated the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre for its successful accomplishment of the AIPC Quality Standards Certification particularly at the top level of achievement and said ‘I am confident that it will provide certified centres with not only a recognisable and marketable qualification, but provide important internal benefits as well in the form of enhanced staff pride, satisfaction and participation.
