Meeting-goers get away in Shenandoah

Friday, 17 Jan, 2008 0

Shenandoah National Park is billing itself as “just far enough away to enjoy some time away and close enough to be convenient for a corporate off-site or group retreat.”

The park is located 90 minutes from Dulles Airport and 72 miles west of Washington, D.C.

“The professional, certified staff of Shenandoah Mountain Guides can customize a program for a group to develop better teamwork and work relationships,” said the park in a news release.

The park offers meeting-goers a variety of activities that include guided interpretative walks and hikes, wine tasting, horseback riding, and outdoor sports such as golfing.

Guests can even book culinary workshops to learn how to use sustainable cooking practices to fix regional fare like apple smoked corn and wild mushroom hushpuppies, pickled melon salad or Virginia ham and smoked Gouda macaroni and cheese.

Warm chestnut paneling, towering stone chimneys, four fireplaces and restored oak floors are features of the Conference Hall at Skyland Resort. Its meeting rooms can accommodate groups of 20 to 80.

Facilities include audio-visual equipment, presentation tools, “and virtually everything needed to plan an event,” says the resort.
Smaller groups may prefer the meeting room at Big Meadows Lodge, which accommodates up to 30 people.

Shenandoah offers a complete meeting planner (CMP) package of $189 per person, available April, May, June, September and November, Sunday through Thursday nights. The price increases to $205 per person in July and August, but includes one night’s lodging, one breakfast, lunch and dinner from special menus; one morning and one afternoon break; meeting room use, and basic AV equipment.

To book, call 1-800-778-2872 or visit, www.visitshenandoah.com.
