Meeting planners to fight lower attrition rates

Sunday, 13 Apr, 2006 0

In a recent poll conducted by MiMegasite.com, half of the 200 meeting and conference planners who respondents indicated that the strictest attrition percentage they would accept in their meeting contract is 20% of the room block.

This is significant in the seller market place for meeting space of the past 18 months, which has lead hotels, and other conference venues to move up the minimum percentage of room-nights a group must fulfill.

The good part of the other half of those surveyed are to varying degree willing to accept the minimum pick-up rate to be negotiated upwards.  This ensures that their meeting takes place in their preferred venue, or because the planners know they will not have problems meeting the higher commitment percentages.  22 percent of respondents said they would sign an agreement that called for 90 percent pick-up of the room block, while another six percent said they would sign an agreement calling for 95 percent pick-up of the block.
