Melbourne Airport handles 35 million travellers over last 12 months
Over 35 million travellers passed through Melbourne Airport in the 12 months to June 2024.
This represented more than 24 million domestic passengers and over 11 million international passengers.
It marked a 14% increase on the previous year, and is 94% of the 2019 peak.
International travel has returned to 96% of pre-pandemic numbers.
Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said: “The past year has been one of steady growth. We have almost returned to 2019 levels and work hard to introduce new airlines, routes and more capacity.”
“We became the first capital city airport in the nation to exceed pre-pandemic international capacity and we have seen huge growth in markets such as Vietnam and India.”
“We’ve also been investing heavily in infrastructure so that we can meet future growth. “
A $3 billion third runway is in the works and the airport has set a target for more than 76 million passengers by 2042.
