Merry times on the Murray
Making merry on the Murray River will mean fun and good value through spring and summer with the latest river cruising holiday packages aboard South Australia’s favourite “boutique” riverboat, the Murray Expedition.
Adelaide-based River of Australia Expeditions, which operates the Murray Expedition, has released spring and summer holiday cruise offers and also will have two special five-night cruises to celebrate Christmas and New Year.
The three-deck, 40-passenger Murray Expedition has been cruising the Murray River for almost 25 years and has never missed a scheduled cruise and although the river’s flow is slow there is plenty of water in its lower reaches in South Australia with abundant flora and fauna, particularly the birdlife.
A new spring river cruise package will give those who like short holidays a chance to see the river at it’s best for the spring into spring price of $399 a person two-share for a Friday evening to Sunday afternoon cruise from Murray Bridge.
It’s an ideal cruise for couples and there’s also a “happy hour” bonus of $100 a couple off the price for bookings made on a Monday between 9am and 11am. The spring special price includes en-suite river view accommodation, all meals, on-shore visits to river towns and sightseeing as well as the river cruising with commentaries detailing the Murray’s fascinating history and ecology. The regular price is $765 a person.
For summer, family holiday packages for the two-night and the five-night cruises which venture to Blanchtown and take in spectacular cliff faces and river red gums, also will have swimming and boating activities from a pontoon at the stern of the vessel. The two-night summer package based on a family of four is $1500 and the five-night package is $3500. Both packages include on-shore excursions, childrens’ activities and the use of canoes and gear for river fishing and swimming. The “happy hour” Monday booking bonus also applies for the family holiday summer sale packages.
The five-night Christmas Cruise will depart on December 23 and the New Year cruise on December 30. Both are priced at $1299 a person twin share per person. For Christmas there will be traditional Christmas trimmings, on-shore carols around a riverbank campfire with a visit and gifts from Santa and a big Christmas Day lunch. On New Year’s Eve there will be live entertainment and champagne at midnight to see in 2008.
Return coach transport is available from Adelaide, or vehicles can be securely garaged at Murray Bridge.
