Mexican low cost carrier VivaAerobus plans to serve Dallas/Fort Worth from four Mexican cities.
The Monterrey-based airline wants to operate a daily service to Monterrey and San Jose del Cabo and to both Cancun and Guadalajara four times a week.
It has applied to the US Department of Transportation for clearance, stating in its application: "The proposed services will generate significant benefits for the traveling and shipping public."
The airline said it has already received the go-ahead from Mexican regulators.
"We welcome the prospect of having VivaAerobus provide DFW with additional service to Mexico, and we are fully supportive of its proposal submitted to the DOT," DFW airport CEO Sean Donohue said.
VivaAerobus hopes to start flying on the routes in December.
It has already successfully applied to start flights from Houston to Guadalajara and Cancun which launch commercially on November 24 and December 3 respectively.
The airline which began flying in 2006, operates 16 Boeing 737-300 and four Airbus A320 aircraft and last year placed an order for 52 Airbus A320 aircraft, the largest so far in Latin America.
