Mexico renovating to lure conventions
Mexico City completed a $125 million renovation to Paseo de la Reforma Avenue, the downtown strip lined with hotels and historic attractions.
Various hotels are undergoing renovations to add to their appeal to not only tourists but also the convention business.
The central Internacional de Exposiciones y Convenciones World Trade Center in the heart of Mexico City is planning a new headquarters hotel due to open in June. The 319-room property will have four meeting rooms that can host 800 attendees.
The historic District’s Centro Banamex, which already has 75,000 square feet of meeting space and 360,000 square feet of trade show floor, is planning to add a hotel and concert hall.
Altogether, Mexico City has 20,000 guest rooms.
