Mexico to offer ‘unique access’

Saturday, 16 Aug, 2012 0

Speaking at Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas this week where Mexico had just won Virtuoso’s ‘Tourism Board of the Year,’  Mexico Tourism secretary, Gloria Guevara Manzo said that the tourism board would be starting a "unique access" program that would offer travelers willing to spend extra money, more exclusive access to ruins, museums and other cultural attractions currently offering limited or time-limited access to larger groups.

She explained that funds from the priority access experiences would be used for upkeep and maintenance of existing sites.

Currently, cities like Madrid, Rome, Paris and Venice offer "priority access" cards directly to travelers that allow ‘no waiting on line’  entry to museums and other cultural attractions.

Travelers to locales like Egypt’s Giza Plateau pyramids have long been offered ‘under-the-table’ private access to inner chambers and other locales.  Some tour companies currently offer private viewings of landmarks like Stonehenge and the Hermitage Museum that are organized directly with the management of those landmarks.

Mexico’s move may herald other tourism boards becoming more directly involved in priority access for luxury travelers and incentive groups.
