Mild weather forces early closure of winter wonderland
Unseasonably mild weather has forced a UK festive attraction to shut down two days before Christmas.
Colchester Winter Wonderland and Ice Rink opened 25 days ago, but announced today it has gone into liquidation blaming the mild weather and strong winds. The winds prevented the attraction from opening for six days this month.
In a statement, the company blamed ‘unseasonably high temperatures and strong winds throughout November and December’.
"After taking legal advice, Reflective Ice Ltd is going into liquidation and has begun the process of appointing administrators," the statement said.
"This decision has been taken with deep regret as it will have a major impact on its staff, partners and customers. Reflective Ice Ltd sincerely thanks their staff, customers, business partners and supporters.
"This is a very sad day."
About 5,000 advance tickets have been sold into the New Year, which will be refunded.
