Millennium Hotels cuts jobs in Singapore
Millennium Hotels and Resorts has announced major downsizing in Singapore with 159 employees laid off.
It follows ‘a rigorous review of its Singapore corporate office and hotel operations’ the firm said.
It owns six hotels in Singapore including Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel and M Social Singapore.
"This is a difficult but inevitable move considering the business recovery outlook on the hospitality industry caused by the Covid-19 pandemic," it said in a statement.
In addition to the lay-offs, it is reducing its foreign worker numbers by nearly half, with 42 losing their jobs.
The company said nearly one-third of all hotels globally were temporarily closed at the end of June.
It operates 145 hotels and resorts around the world.
