Less than 600 days since its launch, Virgin Blue’s award winning frequent flyer program, “Velocity”, has reached a major milestone, signing up its millionth Member who received an unexpected windfall of one million Velocity Points simply by joining online at www.velocityrewards.com.au.

Ian Selth, of Westlake Queensland, could not believe his luck when he was presented with his prize by Phil Gunter, General Manager Velocity, at Brisbane airport yesterday.

“When we launched Velocity, our vision was to create a loyalty program that was of genuine value to Members and most importantly, transparent and easy to redeem Points”, said Phil Gunter.

“We are proud the program has achieved that goal and travellers now recognize and enjoy the benefits of Velocity’s ‘any’ seat redemption policy, a first for an Australian airline, as well as a range of earn and burn opportunities, including airlines, hotels and car hire; and even flowers, food, wine and movie tickets”, he finished.

Mr Selth can redeem his million Points, which have no expiry*, for a wide range of products and services including:

** Sydney-Hong Kong return flying Virgin Atlantic economy class for 16 people – 960,000 Points

** Sydney-Los Angeles return flying Hawaiian Airlines economy class for four people – 460,000 Points

** Perth-London return flying Malaysian Airlines economy class for four people – 512,000 Points

** Brisbane-Kuala Lumpur return flying Malaysian Airlines economy class 16 times for one person – 960,000 Points

** Brisbane-Melbourne return flying Virgin Blue for eight – 171,200 Points

** Canberra-Coolangatta return flying Virgin Blue 65 times for one person – 988,000 Points

** Melbourne-Samoa return flying Polynesian Blue for 16 people – 883,200 Points

** 69 nights in a Choice Hotel (based on a standard double room, each night at 14,000 Points)

** 192 days of car hire with Europcar (based on economy vehicle, 5,200 Points per day)

** 153 cases of Crown Lager (6,500 Points each)

** A Peugeot Scooter Elystar 125cc (887,200 points)

** 250 double Movie passes

Virgin Blue’s Velocity, launched in November 2005, revolutionised the way Members redeem Points by offering an ‘any’ seat redemption policy for the first time in the Australian domestic market.

Other key Velocity benefits include free online membership and no blackout periods.
