Missile lands close to docked cruise ship
Cruise passengers haven’t been spared from the tense situation in the Gulf following bomb attacks on Iran and its subsequent response.
Tensions are high as one missile landed close to German cruise ship Mein Schiff 4, which was docked at Zayed Port, Abu Dhabi.
The ship was carrying 2,500 mostly German guests. German media reported ‘chaos and panic’ on the ship as guests were ordered off the deck and inside and warned to stay away from windows.
The Mein Schiff 4 is operated by TUI Cruises.
The missile landed in the water reportedly just metres from the ship.
Several other ships’ itineraries have been affected including Mein Schiff 5 which was also docked in Abu Dhabi.
In total, there are six ships at the ports of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha including the MSC Euribia and two Celestyal Cruises ships.
Two Celestyal cruise departures set to depart from Abu Dhabi and Dubai today, March 2 have both been cancelled.
Full refunds or a full future cruise credit will be offered it said.
“We apologise to guests for the disruption and greatly appreciate their patience and understanding as we work through this evolving situation,” Celestyal Cruises said.
