Missing the ship turns up as cruiser’s biggest worry

Saturday, 01 Mar, 2011 0

You might think cruisers would worry about stomach-churning storms or even safety at the various ports. But an amazing 43 percent worry most about weather-related flight cancellations or delays that will cause them to miss their ship’s departures, according to the Travel Beat Survey released by Travel Guard North.

In comparison, only twenty-five percent feared missing their cruise because of an illness or injury.

“Surprisingly, despite highly-publicized incidents occurring while ships were at sea or in port, only twenty percent of respondents were worried about getting sick once on the ship, just ten percent of respondents were concerned about safety while in port, and less than one percent of respondents were concerned about potential mechanical issues on board,” said the report sponsored by a travel insurance company..

The survey also addressed the growing trend of megaships.
I

n another surprising finding, it turned out that “less than four percent of those polled considered the size of a ship as its most attractive quality. “

Instead, 47 percent of cruisers were most attracted to a ship because of its itinerary, the report said.

No surprise, however, that the sponsoring company advises worriers to buy insurance.
