Mobile checkout offered at all Marriott hotels
Marriott has rolled out a mobile checkout facility across its entire US portfolio, becoming the first hotel group to adopt mobile tech on such a large scale.
The company said it will be available at all 329 US hotels brand-wide and a further 20 overseas properties.
The remainder of its international properties will follow suit later this year.
Currently available only to Marriott Rewards members, guests receive a notification on the morning of checkout and can access and pay the room bill with a registered credit card through the Marriott iOS or android app.
Guests may then leave keys in the room and depart the property without the need for front desk interaction.
The app also allows users to manage all their reservations and access rewards points.
This marks the next step in Marriott’s mobile strategy which recently launched mobile check-in and there are plans to expand the app to include real-time room service requests by text.
According to Paul Cahill, Marriott senior vice president of brand management, guest feedback indicates a growing appetite for mobile tech to be used to order room service, communicate by text with hotel staff and especially for checking out.
