Mobile site leads to bookings bonanza for youth travel specialist
STA Travel claims to have taken more than 100 transactions on its mobile site in the first few days following the launch.
It said the new site had led to a "significant improvement" in conversion rates from mobile devices.
STA has seen transaction values of more than £1000 on the mobile site, indicating customers are comfortable making large purchases on their phones or tablets, it said.
Prior to the launch of the new site, customers were only able to browse STA Travel products from mobiles.
Now customers can book travel insurance, flights, accommodation, discount cards, visas, STA Travel’s Multiflex pass (which allows airline ticket changes) and gift cards while on the move.
"We have seen a massive increase in mobile users in the past year, numbers have more than doubled in the past 12 months for people accessing our sites via mobile devices," said group chief executive John Constable.
"We are confident that this growth will escalate yet further with the launch of our optimised mobile booking path as customers can now search, book and pay from mobiles or tablets simply, safely and quickly."
STA Travel’s first mobile app is due to be launched at the end of March.
