Mole Poll Shows Strong Support for Qantas Flight Engineers

Wednesday, 04 Jun, 2008 0

Stop-work meetings, a ‘work-to-rule’ approach and overtime restrictions by Qantas Flight Engineers are all being employed to lever Qantas CEO Geoff Dixon back to the bargaining table.

Last week Mr Dixon said fuel prices had doubled over the last twelve months and that it was not economically possible to meet the Engineer’s pay demands. He has responded to the union this week by saying that he will not negotiate while there is industrial action happening.

Mr Dixon is holding firm to the Qantas pay increase policy of 3% whilst the Engineers appear equally adamant that they will only accept a pay increase of 5%.

However, pressure is mounting as evidenced by yesterday’s swearing in the Sydney Qantas Club Lounge after a 24hr plane delay rapidly developing into a situation where the Police had to be called.

Further strikes, and possibly longer strikes appear inevitable as the dispute escalates. The response from the recent Mole Poll shows strong support for the engineers, with 83% in favour of the engineers being given a pay increase.

We are now asking if you think that they should be given the 5% increase that they are seeking.

VOTE NOW!!
