Monarch finds success with no-frills model
Monarch Scheduled has posted record results for the summer.
The airline says it carried over one million passengers in the six summer months, up 33% year-on-year. It follows a decision by the airline to ditch free food and drink in favour of the no-frills model.
The announcement follows a year of schedule increases for Monarch including doubling the number of flights on many routes including London Gatwick to Malaga and Alicante. It also found success with new routes launched from Manchester to Barcelona, Tenerife and Gibraltar.
Expansion continues for the airline, which this week launched weekly flights from Luton to Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.
Monarch also took on a new managing director this summer, Tim Jeans, who came from MyTravel Airways and previously worked for Ryanair.
