More Aussies go downhill in Japan.
Aussie ski operator Ski Max has reported that unprecedented number of Australians will be riding the Japan’s ski slopes after Christmas, after record breaking snow conditions in Japanese alpine resorts last year and the Aussie dollar currently buying more than 90 JapaneseYen.
Ski Max reports that they have been receiving an unbelievable amount of requests for hotel and apartment accommodation, with the growing interest in what is viewed as a “mecca: for Aussie freeriders resulting in accommodation becoming harder to obtain.
As a result, Ski Max is urging skiers to get in now while there are still some beds available.
William Kernot MD of SkiMax told The Mole, “Japan is continuing as the hot spot of the ski world for 2007, with our product range and increased allocation in key areas reflects the ongoing popularity of Hokkaido and Hakuba.”
“Contrary to rumours that it is all booked out, there is still plenty of availability in January, in our range of properties, from budget with share facilities to apartment, condo style accommodation options.”
He also confirmed, “There is still availability on flights to Japan throughout the powder skiing season from mid-December until mid March and we are seeing increased interest in some of the lesser known Japanese ski areas, particularly Furano, Rusutsu in Hokkaido and Hakuba, further south and closer to Tokyo.”
“Our range of apartment options are extremely popular with families and with the increasing development in Niseko there are now more facilities to support the family market.”
“With a few months of bookings still to go SkiMax has already sold more Japan winter holidays this year than the whole of last season and William Kernot said, “Based on current booking patterns we’re expecting a 100% increase on 2005 sales to Japan”.
