Morocco on track for another record-breaking tourism year in 2025
It’s shaping up to be a historic period for Moroccan tourism. The tourism industry in the Northern African kingdom is indeed experiencing an unprecedented boom. It is setting new records and outperforming expectations.
In 2024, the country already welcomed 17.4 million visitors — a 20% increase from 2023. This represented nearly 3 million additional tourists. This surge confirms Morocco’s position as the leading tourist destination in Africa. It also enables the country to reach, two years ahead of schedule, the targets laid out in its 2026 national tourism roadmap.
2024 tourist arrivals are 35% over pre-COVID figures
Even more striking is that 2024 arrivals exceeded pre-pandemic 2019 levels by 35%. The split between international tourists (51%) and Moroccans living abroad (49%) illustrates Morocco’s strong appeal to both global travelers and its diaspora.
Following these record-breaking arrivals, Morocco also achieved an all-time high in tourism revenues. The Kingdom collected USD 12.4 billion (112 billion Moroccan dirhams) in foreign currency earnings in 2024. This marks a 43% increase compared to 2019 and a 7% rise over 2023. Top destinations in overnights were Marrakech with nearly 40% of total tourist visits, followed by Agadir with about 25%, Casablanca with 9% and Tangier with 7%.
The figures reflect the growing sophistication of Morocco’s tourism sector, which has succeeded in offering a more diverse and authentic experience tailored to the needs of an increasingly demanding international clientele.

| Marrakesh | 10 136 482 | 39.8% |

| Casablanca | 2 251 548 | 8.8% |
| Tangier | 1 772 044 | 7% |
| Fes | 972 173 | 3.8% |

2025 to continue Morocco tourism momentum
This upward trend has carried into 2025. In the first half of the year, Morocco attracted further 8.9 million tourists — a 19% rise compared to the same period in 2024, equal to 1.4 million more visitors.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and the Social and Solidarity Economy, this performance reinforces Morocco’s position as a top travel destination. It offers encouraging prospects for the remainder of the year.
“These results confirm Morocco’s attractiveness and our ability to draw a growing number of tourists,” told Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor to Moroccan media. “As we enter the second half of the year, we are prioritizing two major areas: strengthening air connectivity and accelerating the development of accommodation and entertainment options to meet the expectations of an increasingly selective clientele.”
June 2025 alone saw 1.7 million tourist arrivals — an 11% increase year-on-year and the best June ever recorded. The robust start to the summer season is expected to fuel continued growth, as summer remains the peak period for Morocco’s tourism sector.
