Tuesday, 23 Sep, 2004 0

Las Vegas and Caribbean cruises emerged as the most popular destinations for late summer/fall travelers, according to a poll by Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associates.

Las Vegas was No. 1 for US destinations, while Caribbean cruises ranked at the top internationally.

The survey also had promising news for the travel industry in general, with 92% of respondents saying bookings so far this year are equal or higher than the same time last year.

Orlando was the second most popular US destination, followed by Maui, Honolulu and Alaska cruises.

For international destinations, Italy had an unusually strong showing on the list of the top 20 international destinations. Italy was the second most popular European destination, trailing only London, England. This marked the first time Italy made the top 20.

Why are people returning to travel?

The biggest reason cited by 45%: “pent up demand  —  just don’t want to wait any longer.”

Another 31% said they never stopped traveling in the first place.
