Mother and daughter found living in airport car park
A German mother and daughter have been discovered living in Larnaca Airport’s car park for 15 months.
According to Greek-language newspaper Phileleftheros, the pair arrived in Cyprus from Israel in August 2014 and instead of continuing back home to Germany, have stayed there.
The German Embassy, police and airport officials have reportedly offered help them to return to Germany but it has been refused.
The story is a real live version of Tom Hanks film The Terminal, in which he plays a man from Krakozhia who is stuck at JFK Airport as he is denied entry to the US but cannot return to his homeland due to a revolution.
The Cyprus Weekly report that Adamos Aspris, Hermes Airport spokesman, said: "The airport has offered to help the Germans on numerous occasions but they have refused any aid and seem somewhat unwilling to change their circumstances."
Staff at Larnaca Airport claim the mother and daughter are seen regularly entering the airport to use the bathrooms.
The women were deported from Israel because their visas had expired.
Under European law there is no reason to expel EU citizens from a country if they have not committed a crime.
In February 2015, a UK couple Katrina Smith and Alan Lane were found sleeping rough at Heathrow after they fell into debt.
