Mottershead to speak at ABTA Travel Convention
Former TUI UK managing director and now TravelZest chief executive Chris Mottershead is to run a session at the ABTA Travel Convention.
He will share his vision of how consumers will buy and take their holidays in 2010 at the event in Marrakech in November.
He will look at the changes in the travel industry over the past five years and will make predictions as to how the trade will continue to respond to customer demands. The audience and consumer profiling experts will be asked to be involved in discussion and debate.
Questions to be asked include where will the big four be in five years time? Will there be a big four? Will the US take over from Germany as the dominant owners of key UK travel businesses? Will Spanish hoteliers continue to rely on the package holiday or go it alone?
How dominant will the internet be? What role will travel retail provide and can it survive? Will vertical integration be dead as a strategy or will it be made up of different components? Can the no-frills carriers continue to expand? Will the travel specialist survive?
ABTA president Martin Wellings said: “The thing about change is that it never stops – and although we have experienced more in the industry over the last five years than anyone could have reasonably expected – we are still adapting.
“Few people have Chris’ insight and undoubtedly for some, his views will make for uneasy listening. The changes that Chris predicts, if they come true will have far-reaching implications for us all – but he will prove that there’s a need for us all to think differently to do better business in future.”
