MSC Cruises ship catches fire in Corfu
MSC Cruises is investigating how a fire ripped through part of a laid up ship in Corfu. The blaze on MSC Lirica was thought to have started in an empty lifeboat. Footage of the incident showed big plumes of black smoke as tugs put the fire out.
It wasn’t carrying any passengers but 51 crew members were on board at the time. There were no injuries reported.
Pictures show that one side of the ship was heavily blackened, although there was ‘no damage to the inside of the ship’ MSC said. The ship has been docked at the port since early March waiting for cruising to restart. MSC Lirica can accommodate more than 2,500 passengers.
